The Empty Chair

Good Friday: Jesus gathers his disciples for one last meal. He breaks bread. He shares the cup. Then he says, "One of you will betray me." Judas leaves—his chair now empty. The table fellowship Jesus built is about to be shattered. The body will be broken. The blood will be poured out. We gather in the darkness with twelve candles representing twelve disciples, extinguishing them one by one as the passion story unfolds. The table is broken so it can be remade.
