The Cave

Elijah has done extraordinary things and is completely empty. He runs into the wilderness, sits under a tree, and asks God to let him die. He is not dramatic. He is exhausted. God's response is not a lecture. It is a meal and a nap. Twice. Only after Elijah has been fed and rested does the still small voice come, and with it the most searching question in the passage: what are you doing here? It is not a rebuke. It is a calling.
