Make Room by Letting Go

Making room involves letting go: of the clutter, of the things that weigh us down and don't give us life, of certain types of expectations and metrics, of things that have run their course, of the other things that pull on our time and energy and capacity to do the new thing (or better yet—the current thing) that God is calling us to.

For 14 days, 276 people progressively let go through a storm and shipwreck. Malta becomes Christian through Paul's three-month ministry there. Paul arrives in Rome with 275 new witnesses to God's faithfulness.

The theological points: You can't make room while you're clinging. Before we make room for others, God makes room for us. The angel comes to Paul in the storm and says, "Do not be afraid, Paul." God made room for Paul's mission even when it looked like total loss. Sometimes God makes room by stripping away what we thought we couldn't live without. Not as punishment, but as invitation into abundance we couldn't see while clinging. What cargo is God asking you to throw overboard?
